Entry 5 (5-3-19)

Alex Muromcew
Senior Project
5/2/19

Today we were able to interview the Patavina sisters. They are in the process of opening up their own restaurant in Cambridge, MA. Our interview with them was incredibly insightful as they were able to provide the insight that is hard to come by in the restaurant industry. They were able to explain many of the hardships involved with opening up a restaurant in Massachusetts. One of the biggest challenges is acquiring a liquor license since they are long and expensive processes costing around $400,000 and 3-4 months of background checks, hearings, and approvals. This interview was also very helpful as we were able to familiarize ourselves with the jargon and customs of restaurant business.
Afterwards we stopped in Boston to visit the Department of Fish and Game to obtain a recreational lobstering license. We plan to pickup, paint, and drop our own lobster traps in the next few days as the weather complies. In addition, we were able to contact Ken, a local beekeeper in Hingham. We scheduled a time to interview him and take a tour of the facilities that he runs to maintain a bee business. Our time with him should prove to be very useful as we plan to acquire bee hives of our own and try our hand at beekeeping.
